WORLD CHINESE UROLOGICAL SOCIETY
WORLD CHINESE UROLOGICAL SOCIETY

7th WCUS-AUA, 2012

The inaugural meeting for the World Chinese Urological Society (WCUS) was held in Atlanta, Georgia in 2006 during the American Urological Association (AUA) 101th annual meeting. In the past six years, the WCUS has become one of the most active sub-specialty societies at the AUA. The initial participants at the 1st WCUS meeting were from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia and North America; but at the last meeting in Washington DC, included members from all corners of the world. The number of attendees has also increased from less than 200 at the 1st WCUS meeting to about 600 urologists and uroscientists of Chinese decent participating at the 6th WCUS meeting. At the upcoming 7th Annual WCUS meeting in Atlanta, Georgia on May 19, 2012, we anticipate that even more will attend as there are more than 10,000 urologists of Chinese decent in the world, many of whom are increasingly active in the activities of the AUA.

The official registration for the World Chinese Urological Society was approved by the State of Texas, USA under the official name of the Global Chinese Urological Society on December 29, 2009 as a non-profit organization because the “World Chinese” was used for registration by other organizations in Texas. The Tax ID for Global Chinese Urological Society is 27-1504205. We kept the name of the World Chinese Urological Society for all AUA related activities.

Currently, the most important event for the WCUS is the Annual Meeting at the AUA. For the past six years, many talented individuals have volunteered their time and expertise to select the best topics that cover cutting edge progress in urology, particularly amongst the Chinese urological community worldwide. For the 7th annual WCUS meeting, each regional society within the scope of WCUS is given the freedom to select speakers and moderators who can well represent their respective society.

The 2012 meeting will begin with the Lo Ping-Wan memorial lecture that was established a year ago to invite world renowned urologists to lecture at our meeting. This year’s Lo Ping-Wan memorial lecture will be given by Dr. Christopher Wood from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center regarding surgical management for advanced renal cell carcinoma. We will then have three comprehensive sessions regarding lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), minimally invasive surgery, and prostate cancer. Experts from China, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau will review evidence-based information and give their personal experiences regarding the prevalence, risk factor, etiology, treatment and ideal surgical techniques for LUTS and prostate diseases. Next, our annual award ceremony will recognize those who have contributed greatly to WCUS. Following this session, three topics in men’s health and andrology field will be given by experts from Hong Kong and Germany. This will be followed by a session to discuss the trend of prevalence of GU tumor in China and the new development of diagnosis and treatment for bladder cancer. We have designated a session for “urological potpourri” to provide the opportunity for regional societies to present their interesting topics in general urology. The meeting will end with the AUA abstract highlight session for kidney, bladder and prostate cancers, BPH, voiding dysfunction/female urology, sexual dysfunction/infertility, urolithiasis, and laproscopic/robotic assistant surgery. The AUA abstract highlight session has been regarded highly by participants as way to catch the cutting edge of the basic and clinical science of urology in the previous WCUS meetings.

The WCUS is still growing and will continue being a notable affiliate society of the AUA. By holding the WCUS meeting during the annual AUA meeting, members from WCUS will have the remarkable opportunity to share the advancements in basic and clinical research in urology with the AUA members from other parts of the world. This also serves as venue for all urologists and uroscientists from the entire world to attend our meeting and to meet the best and brightest Chinese colleagues.

The industry supports have been the key part of success for animal WCUS meeting. We welcome the sponsored lectures, symposium and lunch program. Successful sponsors will have the opportunities to recommend their speakers, be present at the WCUS meeting and place their advertisements at the WCUS website, etc. For detailed information, please contact Tom Lue, MD, or Run Wang, MD or Guiting Lin, MD, by the e-mails listed in this letter.

Sincerely,

Run Wang, MD, FACS
